Designing the Blueprint for the world’s largest arts festival.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe want to be the greatest festival on earth at which to perform, produce, run a venue, develop a career, see shows and discover talent.

They have created a 5 year plan and a public facing Blueprint document ahead of the 75th Anniversary in 2022, which needed to be brought to life to reflect their bold vision and make a big impact on their diverse audience of politicians, major funders and senior decision makers. 


Here’s to the ‘Original Eight’

We took the idea of am engineering-style ‘blueprint’ and stripped this right back to a simple, 2-colour typographic solution.

This enabled us to heavily feature the brand blue, pairing this with a bold, fluorescent ink to achieve maximum stand out. The original Edinburgh Fringe of 1947 featured just 8 performers so as a means of celebrating these pioneers, we divided the blueprint into 8 sections (or ‘Acts’), profiling each performer using a tracing paper cover sheet emblazoned with bold graphic numbers. The result was an easily skimmable document, clear message of intent from the Fringe and a unique piece of print.

Launched just in time for the Fringe in June 2018 they received an unexpected level of highly positive feedback along with being beyond delighted with the result themselves.
